The Red Bull Soapbox Race is considered one of the world’s most unique races, and it returned to Hungary after 16 years. Together with our two sister companies, we entered the Igloo Mobile in the race, using the robust and sturdy structure from the chassis of IglooDoors®‘ cold room doors. The Igloo Mobile not only held its own but also won the race.

Many see the Red Bull Soapbox Race as madness, and from a fun perspective, they’re right. However, we saw it as the most creative and challenging team-building exercise ever, during which we truly became a real team.

The idea to participate came just days before the deadline. By that afternoon, we decided to create a rolling igloo using the aluminum frame from IglooDoors® cold room doors and recycled PU foam from our sister company, purman®. The latter we would like to use in the future to insulate IglooDoors® doors.

As we wanted to use as much recycled material as possible, we chose an aesthetically damaged aluminium frame. We don’t use these in the manufacture of cold room doors, but they were perfect for the Igloo Mobile. The chassis performed excellently in the tests and even in the race. But there were plenty of challenges.

Our gravity-powered racer nearly overturned at the first corner and had to navigate two jumps designed to test the competitors.

The Igloo Mobile handled these challenges perfectly. Though the PU body sustained damage, the chassis remained in perfect condition.

“We often say that our products are robust and sturdy, and now we have proved it in extreme conditions,” said Gábor Hangosi, our Managing Director. – Even we were surprised that the chassis withstood the slightest deformation. The funniest thing was when one of the fans looked inside our race car and was surprised to see that it looked just like their cold room door. It was no accident.”

The structure not only endured the intense competition but also triumphed, showcasing the dedication and collaborative effort of our team. Nearly all members contributed to designing, building, and racing the Igloo Mobile, making this victory a significant achievement for our team.

The winning vehicle, featuring the IglooDoors® cold room door structure, will be proudly displayed at our company’s entrance, sharing its success story with all visitors.
